The Golden State Wind Orchestra is made up of volunteer musicians seeking a strong community and challenging music. The GSWO advocates the benefits of wind music through performance, outreach and education.
The Golden State Wind Orchestra's purpose is to provide symphonic music at the utmost degree of distinction, performance opportunities for area musicians, outreach and educational programs to local children and academic institutions, and the cultural benefits of a symphonic wind ensemble to the local community. This draws our larger communities into the work of the fine arts, including indirect recruitment for music education schools and colleges in the greater Sacramento area.
With the help of his colleagues and classmates, conductor Marlon Ramirez founded the GSWO in June 2015, after graduating from the Sacramento State University Music Department. The ensemble quickly grew to include professional musicians and music educators from the greater sacramento area. Currently in the process of obtaining 501(c)(3) status, the orchestra is in fiscal partnership with the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission.
The GSWO currently rehearses at Cosumnes River College. Updates at gswinds.org
