The Sacramento Concert Band was founded in 1969 by Ed LaFranchi. In its fourth year, the band performed a concert on the first Sunday in June at the band shell in Carmichael Park, and has continued the tradition each year. Through the years, the band has gone through several name changes, including the Sacramento Valley Concert Band and The Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band.

Grant Parker has conducted the band since 1990.  Parker is a long time music educator and the retired Director of Bands and Music Department Chair at Cosumnes River College. Through its history, the band has always performed a wide variety of music and has been known for the quality of its performances.

The Sacramento Concert Band is an adult education course of the San Juan Unified School District, which has sponsored the band since its inception.
