Winds of Faith
Winds of Faith (formerly the William Jessup University Community Wind Ensemble) has announced plans for its first season. Under the direction of Mr. Van B. Crane, the band will present concerts for the upcoming year in churches, schools, and community centers throughout Placer and Sacramento Counties.
In 2008, the original community band began activities at William Jessup University in order to provide large ensemble opportunities for its instrumental music students. With the increase of WJU instrumental student enrollment, this band no longer served as a support for the college’s music department. Consequently, it was dissolved last year. Not to be deterred, the members enthusiastically voted to continue as an organization, and the Winds of Faith was created.
The ensemble attracts instrumentalists of all ages from communities including Colfax, Auburn, Folsom, Rocklin, Roseville, Lincoln, Carmichael and Fair Oaks. Asked whether the band is looking for new members, Crane indicated there is always room for qualified musicians, especially percussionists (specifically mallets), String Bass, French Horn, Clarinet, and Bass Clarinet. The band is open to adult musicians who have a desire to perform some of the greatest sacred and secular band music ever written—marches, show tunes, light classics, and other traditional band music. Qualified high school musicians are also welcome to join with the permission of their respective band directors. Finally, we are affiliated with the Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band Association (SVSBA).
